Background:

  • Bovine respiratory diseases pose significant economic challenges in the livestock industry.
  • Necrobacillary diseases, often caused by anaerobic bacteria, can lead to severe pulmonary complications in cattle.

Observation:

  • A one and one-half year old steer presented with clinical signs suggestive of severe respiratory distress.
  • Necropsy revealed extensive pulmonary lesions consistent with necrobacillary fibrinous bronchopneumonia and abscessation.

Findings:

  • Histopathological examination of lung tissues showed multifocal areas of coagulation necrosis, thrombosis of pulmonary lymphatics, and significant fibrin deposition within bronchioles and alveoli.
  • Pure cultures of Fusobacterium necrophorum were successfully isolated from the affected lung tissues, confirming its etiological role.
