This systematic review found that most intervention programs effectively reduce disruptive behavior in primary school students. While the number of programs is growing, more research is needed to build a comprehensive network for interventions.
Area of Science:
- Educational Psychology
- Child Development
- Behavioral Science
Background:
- Disruptive behavior in primary school students presents significant challenges to learning environments.
- Effective intervention strategies are crucial for student well-being and academic success.
Purpose of the Study:
- To conduct a mixed systematic review of international literature on research and programs for reducing disruptive behavior in primary school students.
- To identify effective intervention programs and analyze their characteristics.
Main Methods:
- A mixed systematic review following PRISMA-ScR guidelines was conducted across six databases.
- Studies published between 2004-2020 in Spanish and English were selected using UNESCO and ERIC Thesaurus terms.
- Thirty-five articles detailing intervention programs were analyzed in depth.
Main Results:
- The majority of reviewed programs targeted the primary education stage.
- Questionnaires and observation charts were the predominant instruments used for assessment.
- A significant 77.14% of the analyzed intervention programs demonstrated effectiveness in meeting their objectives.
Conclusions:
- The international scientific literature shows a growing number of intervention programs for reducing disruptive behavior in primary school students.
- Despite positive trends, a substantial need exists for developing a robust network of interventions to support primary education.
