Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Otolaryngology
  • Facial Plastic Surgery

Background:

  • Alar rim deformities are frequent complications of primary and secondary rhinoplasty.
  • Causes include congenital issues and surgical weakening of the lower lateral cartilage.
  • Existing methods may not offer complete alar rim control.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present four types of alar contour grafts.
  • To discuss the expanded role of alar contour grafts in rhinoplasty.
  • To highlight their efficacy in preventing and treating alar rim deformities.

Main Methods:

  • Review and categorization of four distinct alar contour graft techniques.
  • Discussion of surgical principles for graft placement.
  • Analysis of graft application in both prevention and correction of deformities.

Main Results:

  • Alar contour grafts offer a reliable method for managing alar rim deformities.
  • These grafts provide enhanced structural support and aesthetic control.
  • Successful application in both primary and revision rhinoplasty cases.

Conclusions:

  • Alar contour grafts are crucial for addressing alar rim deformities in rhinoplasty.
  • They offer superior control and predictability compared to cartilage manipulation alone.
  • The presented techniques expand the armamentarium for preventing and correcting these common issues.
