Management of pregnancy with poor intrauterine fetal growth
1Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Parma, Italy.
Abstract:
This paper highlights the two main aims in the management of fetal growth retardation. The first is auxological (growth) improvement and the second is the selection of optimal timing and mode of delivery. These two competing management plans are presented against a background of the three different types of in utero growth retardation that have been recognized. Appropriate management of in utero growth retardation in our unit has resulted in a decrease in perinatal mortality from 16.7 to 1.2% and a reduction of major cerebral morbidity from 16.1% to zero.
