ECT-induced cognitive side effects are associated with hippocampal enlargement

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) increases hippocampus size, which is linked to worse memory and cognitive function in patients with treatment-resistant depression. Future treatments may improve outcomes by preventing this volume change.
