- Eighteen studies with 2934 cases and 4291 controls were included for risk analysis.
- Five studies with 557 cases were included for survival analysis.
- No significant association was found between the studied TNF-α polymorphisms and MM susceptibility or survival in any genetic model for Caucasians or East Asians.
Conclusions:
- This meta-analysis did not find evidence supporting a role for TNF-α -308G/A and -238G/A polymorphisms in multiple myeloma risk.
- The studied TNF-α polymorphisms do not appear to influence the survival outcomes of multiple myeloma patients.
- Further research may be needed to explore other genetic or environmental factors in MM pathogenesis.
