Suid herpesvirus type 1 (SHV1) causes a severe, rapidly progressing human encephalitis, often linked to swine exposure. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) aids rapid diagnosis, but prognosis remains poor due to respiratory failure and deep gray matter lesions.
