Conclusions:

  • Deficits in functional connectivity within the left insula and left frontal regions contribute to poor attention control in chronic pain.
  • Altered brain connectivity patterns are associated with attention impairments in somatoform pain disorder.
  • Findings highlight the neural basis of attention dysfunction in the pathophysiology of chronic pain.
