  • Systematic literature review of 15 databases up to April 2020.
  • Adherence to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.
  • Inclusion of studies in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, or Italian.

Main Results:

  • 15 articles met the criteria; 10 were online, 5 used smartphone apps.
  • Most online MDiet interventions were effective, especially those based on best practices.
  • Interventions improved physical activity and cholesterol levels (higher HDL, lower Total:HDL ratio).

Conclusions:

  • Technology-based interventions effectively promote MDiet adherence and achieve health outcomes.
  • Further research is required to establish the efficacy of MDiet interventions delivered via smartphone apps.
