Carbon Monoxide Poisoning and Developing Ischemic Heart Disease: A Nationwide Population-Based Nested Case-Control

Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning significantly increases the risk of ischemic heart disease (IHD). This risk is elevated in younger individuals and those with comorbidities, persisting for years after exposure.

- CO poisoning is a significant risk factor for developing IHD.
- The increased IHD risk is particularly pronounced in younger populations and those with pre-existing conditions.
- Long-term cardiovascular monitoring is warranted for individuals with a history of CO poisoning.
