Background:

  • Tularaemia is a rare zoonotic disease caused by Francisella tularensis.
  • In Poland, infections are primarily due to Francisella tularensis subspecies holarctica (type B).

Observation:

  • Human tularaemia cases in Poland are infrequent, typically numbering just over a dozen annually.
  • The ulceroglandular form is the most common clinical presentation, varying with the infection route.

  • Delayed diagnosis is common due to tularaemia's low prevalence and varied clinical manifestations.
