Summary

A new classification system for recurrent inguinal hernia (RIH) after open surgery identifies causes of recurrence. Mesh repair recurrences were faster than suture repair recurrences, with mesh migration being the quickest.

  • This classification can lead to improved outcomes in future open inguinal hernia surgeries.
