Specialized Care Centers and Settings-II01:30

Specialized Care Centers and Settings-II

Rural Health Centers
Rural health centers are specialized care facilities in remote locations with very few medical personnel. The primary care providers who run the centers are mostly Registered Nurse Practitioners. Here, emergency treatment is provided to critically ill or injured patients before they are transferred to the closest hospital. Fortunately, due to advancement in technology, many rural healthcare facilities and professionals have easy access to diagnostic and treatment...

Restorative Care01:19

Restorative Care

2.1K
Restorative care is provided once a patient has been discharged from a healthcare facility and requires additional services. The additional services include home care, rehabilitation programs, and extended care. Restorative care centers help the patient regain their previous level of functioning or acquire a new level of functioning due to the incapacitating effects of a disease or a disability. It aims to assist patients in enhancing their quality of life by encouraging independence,...

The Professional Nurse01:22

The Professional Nurse

5.2K
Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Additionally, nurses must be competent in cognitive, technical, interpersonal, and ethical/legal skills. Some of the best attributes of successful nurses include the following:
Communication skills: These are critical characteristics, especially speaking and listening.

Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

5.5K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

3.8K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice01:30

Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice

14.6K
Theories play an essential role in organizing patient care. Theories refer to a proposed or followed belief, policy, or procedure that is the basis for action. Nursing theories are knowledge-based concepts that guide nurses' actions, influence nursing education and practice, and allow nurses to care for their patients.
Theories provide a perspective to assess patients' conditions and organize data and methods. They also assist in analyzing and interpreting information. They represent a...

Area of Science:

  • Occupational Health
  • Psychosomatic Medicine
  • Rehabilitation Psychology

Background:

  • Nursing professions face high psychological distress, absenteeism, and early retirement.
  • Existing rehabilitation may not adequately address workplace-specific demands for nurses.
  • Workplace-oriented interventions are hypothesized to improve return-to-work rates.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To pilot a novel workplace-oriented medical rehabilitation program for nursing professionals.
  • To assess changes in work-related attitudes and depressiveness following the intervention.
  • To compare the intervention's effects against a standard depression treatment.

Main Methods:

  • A pilot study involving 145 depressed nursing professionals and 147 depressed non-nursing professionals.
  • Utilized MANOVA and ANOVAs to compare work-related attitudes (AVEM) at baseline.
  • Assessed changes in work attitudes and depressiveness (BDI-II) post-intervention using MANOVA, repeated measures ANOVAs, and mixed models.

Main Results:

  • Nurses initially showed higher 'willingness to work to exhaustion' and lower 'distancing ability' than non-nurses.
  • Post-intervention, nurses reported reduced 'subjective importance of work,' 'willingness to work to exhaustion,' and 'striving for perfection.'
  • Significant improvements were noted in 'distancing ability' and 'life satisfaction'; depression scores improved similarly across intervention and control groups.

Conclusions:

  • The workplace-oriented intervention effectively modified maladaptive work-related attitudes in nursing professionals.
  • Improvements in depressiveness were comparable to standard depression treatments.
  • The program shows promise for addressing specific occupational challenges faced by nurses.
