Background:

  • External quality assurance (EQA) is mandated for acute in-hospital care in Germany, involving compulsory institutional comparisons.
  • The effectiveness of EQA, particularly for stroke care, remains under-researched.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between EQA and health care outcomes in acute stroke patients.
  • To evaluate the impact of EQA on mortality risk following stroke.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of data from 379,825 AOK-insured patients with acute stroke admissions (2007-2017).
