    Summary

    The rare granular cell ameloblastic fibroma, a benign odontogenic tumor, typically presents as a well-defined radiolucency in adult women. Surgical excision is effective, with no recurrences observed in this study of ten cases.

    Background:

    • The granular cell ameloblastic fibroma is a rare benign odontogenic tumor first described in 1962.
    • Literature review identified eight previously reported cases, all in women aged 53-65.
    • Lesions were typically well-circumscribed radiolucencies, predominantly in the mandible.

    Observation:

    • Two additional cases of this rare neoplasm are presented.
    • Clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic features of these cases are described.
    • The total number of identified cases is now ten.

    Findings:

    • All previously reported cases and the two new cases involved adult women.
    • Seven lesions were located in the posterior mandible, and one in the maxillary premolar region.
    • Surgical excision was the treatment of choice, with no recurrences noted during follow-up (6-144 months).

    Implications:

    • The study supports renaming the tumor to central odontogenic fibroma, granular cell variant.
    • This renaming reflects a more accurate classification based on observed features.
    • Understanding the characteristics of this rare tumor aids in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
