[Inverted papilloma. A rare diagnosis for the maxillofacial surgeon]

Inverted papilloma or schneiderian papilloma is a benign unilateral tumor of the nose and paranasal sinuses affecting chiefly the males aged between 40 and 70. Diagnosis is made with biopsy and limits are ascertained with CT scan. Growth tumor is slow and clinical signs are mainly functional. The tumor has a propensity for malignant transformation (5 to 15%). After treatment, there is a high recurrence rate, of more than 50%. That is why surgical local excision must be wide and rather aggressive, at best through a lateral rhinotomy.
