This study presents a novel, compact double negative metamaterial using an inverse double V structure. The metamaterial achieves multiple resonance frequencies, making it suitable for high-speed Wi-Fi and radar applications.
Area of Science:
- Electromagnetics and Metamaterials
- Applied Physics
- Electrical Engineering
Background:
- Metamaterials offer unique electromagnetic properties not found in natural materials.
- Double Negative (DNG) metamaterials exhibit negative permittivity and permeability, enabling novel applications.
- Developing compact and efficient DNG metamaterials for specific frequency bands remains an active research area.
Purpose of the Study:
- To design and analyze a novel inverse double V loaded complementary square split ring resonator (CSSRR) based DNG metamaterial.
- To numerically and experimentally validate the electromagnetic properties and performance of the proposed metamaterial.
- To explore the potential applications of the developed metamaterial in high-speed wireless communication and radar systems.
Main Methods:
- Numerical simulations using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) with the Finite Integration Technique (FIT).
- Experimental validation of the metamaterial's performance.
- Analysis of electromagnetic field distributions, equivalent circuit modeling using Advanced Design System (ADS), and parametric studies.
Main Results:
- The designed metamaterial exhibits three resonance frequencies at 2.86 GHz (S-band), 5 GHz (C-band), and 8.30 GHz (X-band).
- Achieved a high Effective Medium Ratio (EMR) of 13.11 with a compact unit cell size of 8x8x1.524 mm³.
- Demonstrated wide bandwidths (-10 dB) for each resonance frequency and excellent agreement between simulated and measured results for unit cells and arrays.
Conclusions:
- The proposed inverse double V loaded CSSRR metamaterial offers a unique combination of small size, simple structure, and desirable electromagnetic properties.
- The metamaterial's multi-band resonance characteristics make it highly suitable for applications in Wi-Fi (5 GHz band) and both S-band and X-band radar systems.
- The developed metamaterial demonstrates superior performance compared to existing structures, highlighting its potential for advanced wireless and radar technologies.
