Summary

Group reflection significantly improved nurses' knowledge, attitude, and performance regarding ethical codes. This method proved more effective than traditional lectures for enhancing practical application of professional ethics in nursing care.

Background:

Respect for professional ethics is a fundamental nursing responsibility in clinical care.
Understanding the impact of educational interventions on nurses' ethical knowledge, attitude, and performance is crucial.

Purpose of the Study:

To determine the effect of group reflection on nurses' knowledge, attitude, and performance concerning ethical codes.
To compare the efficacy of group reflection versus traditional lectures in improving ethical practice among nurses.

Main Methods:

A blinded, before-after educational trial involving 86 nurses in Iran.
Participants were randomly assigned to either a group reflection intervention (n=44) or a control group (n=42) receiving a lecture.
Data collected using knowledge tests, attitude scales, and performance questionnaires before and after the intervention.

Main Results:

Both group reflection and lectures improved nurses' knowledge and attitude, with no significant difference between the groups in knowledge change.
The intervention group showed a significant improvement in attitude compared to the control group post-intervention.
Group reflection led to a significant improvement in nurses' performance regarding ethical codes, unlike the lecture-based approach.

Conclusions:

Group reflection is an effective method for enhancing nurses' knowledge, attitude, and performance in relation to ethical codes.
While lectures can improve knowledge and attitude, group reflection demonstrates a superior impact on the practical performance of ethical standards by nurses.
