Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Cardiac Surgery
  • Oncology

Background:

  • Cardiac myxomas are the most frequent primary cardiac tumors, typically originating in the left atrium.
  • While common in the left atrium, myxomas rarely occur in the left ventricle.

Observation:

  • This study presents a unique case of a patient with a recurrent left ventricular myxoma after two previous left atrial myxoma excisions.
  • The tumor's location in the left ventricle posed a surgical challenge.

Findings:

  • Complete surgical resection of the left ventricular myxoma was achieved through aortotomy.
  • The procedure was performed without tumor fragmentation, ensuring a favorable outcome.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the possibility of recurrent cardiac myxomas in unusual locations, even after initial successful removal.
  • Complete and careful surgical excision is crucial for preventing recurrence and ensuring patient recovery from cardiac myxomas.
