Patients with musculoskeletal disorders experience lower quality of life due to psychological factors, age, and social influences. Identifying these psychological peculiarities can guide targeted interventions for better rehabilitation outcomes.
Area of Science:
- Psychology
- Orthopedics
- Rehabilitation Medicine
Background:
- Musculoskeletal disorders significantly impact patient quality of life.
- Understanding psychological factors is crucial for effective treatment of these conditions.
Purpose of the Study:
- To identify psychological peculiarities in patients with musculoskeletal disorders.
- To establish targets for medical and psychological interventions for comprehensive patient care.
Main Methods:
- Utilized the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) for quality of life assessment.
- Employed the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS) and Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory (BDHI).
- Assessed stress resistance using S. Kouhen and G. Willianson's test.
Main Results:
- Significant differences in quality of life were observed between patient and comparison groups (p<0.05).
- Age, individual psychological traits, and social factors were identified as key contributors to reduced quality of life.
- Aggression showed a correlation with quality of life indicators; physical health and functioning were positively related to physical functioning, while pain was inversely related to physical functioning. Stress resistance was inversely related to physical health.
Conclusions:
- Psychological peculiarities significantly influence the quality of life in patients with musculoskeletal disorders.
- Findings support the development of targeted prevention and rehabilitation programs for middle-aged individuals with musculoskeletal conditions.
- An individualized approach involving multidisciplinary specialists is recommended for optimal patient outcomes.
