Uncertainty: Overview00:59

Uncertainty: Overview

1.1K
In analytical chemistry, we often perform repetitive measurements to detect and minimize inaccuracies caused by both determinate and indeterminate errors. Despite the cares we take, the presence of random errors means that repeated measurements almost never have exactly the same magnitude. The collective difference between these measurements - observed values - and the estimated or expected value is called uncertainty. Uncertainty is conventionally written after the estimated or expected value.

Drug Discovery: Overview01:26

Drug Discovery: Overview

9.4K
Drug discovery is a multifaceted process involving extensive screening, testing, and optimization of lead compounds to identify potential new drugs for therapeutic use. It combines several approaches, including screening large numbers of natural products, chemical modification of known active molecules, identification of new drug targets, and rational design based on biological mechanisms and drug-receptor structure. These approaches are carried out in both academic research laboratories and...

Evolutionary Psychology

525
Evolutionary psychology explores the origins of human behavior and mental processes by framing them within the context of natural selection, a theory famously propounded by Charles Darwin. This field asserts that many behaviors common across human societies — ranging from instinctive fear reactions to complex social interactions — arose as evolutionary adaptations. These adaptations enhanced the survival and reproductive success of our ancestors, thereby becoming embedded in the...

Hindsight Biases

4.0K
Hindsight bias leads you to believe that the event you just experienced was predictable, even though it really wasn’t. In other words, you knew all along that things would turn out the way they did. Can you relate this to the phrase "Hindsight is 20/20" now?

High-Level and Low-Level Awareness01:19

High-Level and Low-Level Awareness

421
Controlled processes in human consciousness represent high-alert mental states where individuals deliberately focus their attention on achieving specific goals. Controlled processes can be seen in situations like mastering new technology, where a person might become so absorbed that they ignore surrounding distractions. Such processes involve selective attention, requiring one to concentrate on particular elements of experience while disregarding others. These are governed by executive...

Background:

  • Knowledge hiding, the intentional concealment of knowledge, is a growing concern in organizational research.
  • Understanding its dynamics is crucial for effective knowledge sharing and organizational success.

Approach:

  • A comprehensive review of 81 scientific articles published between 2012 and 2020.
  • Utilized descriptive analysis, bibliometric analysis, and content analysis for a robust examination.
  • Focused on research within Web of Science academic journals.

Key Points:

  • Identified five central research clusters: concept/dimensions, antecedents, consequences, theories, and influence mechanisms of knowledge hiding.
  • Highlighted the current research landscape and dynamics in the field.
  • Revealed the multifaceted nature of knowledge hiding behaviors within organizations.

Conclusions:

  • Future research should refine the concept and dimensions of knowledge hiding.
  • Further investigation into the consequences and multilevel aspects of knowledge hiding is recommended.
  • Emphasizes the need for innovative methods and consideration of cultural context in studying knowledge hiding.
