    Summary

Researchers achieved cascaded mid-infrared (MIR) laser output in erbium-doped YAG (Er:YAG) crystals at room temperature. This cascade significantly improved laser performance, reducing thresholds and increasing slope efficiencies for MIR laser applications.

    • Materials Science

    Background:

    • Erbium-doped YAG (Er:YAG) lasers are crucial for mid-infrared (MIR) applications.
    • Optimizing Er:YAG laser performance, particularly at room temperature, remains an active research area.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To experimentally achieve cascaded MIR pulsed laser output in Er:YAG crystals at room temperature.
    • To investigate the impact of this cascade on laser performance metrics.
    • To identify the underlying mechanism responsible for performance enhancement.

    Main Methods:

    • Experimental generation of cascaded laser output in Er:YAG crystals.
    • Comparative analysis of laser performance (threshold, slope efficiency) with and without cascade configuration.
    • Varying Er:YAG doping concentrations (10 and 15 at.%).
