High Systemic Type I Interferon Activity Is Associated With Active Class III/IV Lupus Nephritis

High serum type I interferon (IFN) is linked to severe lupus nephritis (LN), particularly class III/IV. Renal tissue analysis revealed IFN signature in glomeruli, suggesting a systemic origin, and direct podocyte activation.

- The IFN signature's localization in glomeruli, not pDCs, suggests a potential systemic source of IFN in LN kidneys.
