    Background:

    • Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, slow-growing mesenchymal tumor.
    • DFSP originates from cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues, presenting as an indurated plaque.
    • This neoplasm has a high rate of local recurrence but a low metastatic potential.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate clinicopathological parameters and clinical outcomes of DFSP patients.
    • To assess the effectiveness of surgical excision in managing DFSP.
    • To analyze the recurrence patterns and follow-up data of DFSP.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of 23 patients diagnosed with and operated for DFSP.
    • Examination of clinicopathological parameters, clinical outcomes, and follow-up data.
    • Data collected from Ankara University Medical School, Department of Surgical Oncology (2006-2017).

    Main Results:

    • 23 patients (14 male, 9 female) were analyzed.
    • Tumor locations included the trunk (13), extremities (7), chest (2), and neck (1).
    • 17 patients required reoperation to achieve tumor-free margins; one experienced local recurrence requiring re-excision. All patients survived with a median follow-up of 54.2 months.

    Conclusions:

    • DFSP is an uncommon, low-grade sarcoma with a high local recurrence rate.
    • Histology and immunohistochemistry are crucial for diagnosis.
    • Achieving local control through surgical excision remains the primary management challenge.
