Rasmussen encephalitis: Predisposing factors and their potential role in unilaterality

Rasmussen encephalitis (RE) may be predisposed by perinatal complications and facial autoimmune conditions. Ipsilateral early lesions, whether brain or autoimmune, may explain RE's unilateral presentation.
