Area of Science:

  • Computer Science
  • Cryptography
  • Image Processing

Background:

  • Image encryption is crucial for data security.
  • Existing methods often use complex chaotic systems, leading to slower performance.
  • The logistic map is a well-studied chaotic system with potential for encryption.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a fast and secure plaintext-related image encryption algorithm.
  • To leverage the logistic map's chaotic properties for enhanced security.
  • To improve encryption efficiency compared to existing complex systems.

Main Methods:

  • Modifying logistic map parameters based on plain image pixel intensities in a row-wise manner.
  • Utilizing knowledge of the logistic map's fixed points and periodic cycles for parameter alteration.
  • Ensuring parameter values yield high positive Lyapunov exponents for pronounced chaotic behavior.

Main Results:

  • The proposed algorithm achieves encryption results comparable to complex chaotic systems.
  • The method demonstrates significantly faster encryption speeds.
  • Experimental verification confirms the pronounced chaotic behavior of the modified logistic map.

Conclusions:

  • The developed image encryption algorithm offers a balance of security and speed.
  • A simpler, well-studied chaotic map can be effectively used for image encryption.
  • The row-wise parameter modification is efficient for both encryption and decryption.
