Stinging Trichomes in Apocynaceae and Their Evolution in Angiosperms

Stinging trichomes, plant defense structures, were identified in the Apocynaceae family for the first time. These glandular trichomes on Fischeria and Matelea species release irritating secretions upon contact, indicating a new defense mechanism.
