[The evolution of the ANMCO research over 50 years of continuous commitment]
1Centro Studi ANMCO, Firenze.
Abstract:
Over the past 50 years there have been profound modifications in Italian and international societies. Even in our cardiology world, from the birth of the Italian Journal of Cardiology (GIC) to now, the methods of conduction of clinical research have undergone profound changes. The study that most significantly made Italian cardiology known globally was GISSI, which revolutionized the treatment of acute myocardial infarction, paving the way for substantial improvements in the outcome of patients with this clinical syndrome. The continuity of observational and randomized studies, also in collaboration with international research institutions, has characterized the Italian cardiology research which, considering the concrete solution of outstanding clinical problems as a priority, has contributed to the evolution of knowledge in various cardiovascular areas. The creation of the ANMCO Research Center allowed an independent and professional management of the clinical, bureaucratic, logistical-organizational aspects that research projects required over time. Recently, a series of methodological evolutions have entered (or will enter) in the current research. The "Next Generation ANMCO" aims to consolidate what has been produced in research in the 50 years since the birth of the GIC with innovative projects but always aimed at answering unresolved public health questions.
