    Summary

    Percutaneous gastrostomy (PG) and gastroenterostomy (PGE) are effective for alimentation and decompression. The coaxial trocar technique and needle puncture systems offer advantages for initial feeding tube placement.

    • Percutaneous gastrostomy (PG) and gastroenterostomy (PGE) are established procedures.
    • Indications include nutritional support and bowel decompression.

    • To report initial experiences with PG and PGE in 40 patients.
    • To evaluate different techniques for tube insertion.

    • Comparison of Seldinger technique (with air distension) and coaxial trocar technique.
    • Evaluation of a preferred system using 18-gauge needle puncture for direct feeding tube insertion.
    • Assessment of small bowel catheter positioning (PGE) versus gastrostomy alone.
