Acute Pharyngitis01:30

Acute Pharyngitis

2.0K
Introduction
Acute pharyngitis is the inflammation of the back of the throat (pharynx), commonly resulting in a sore throat. It is a frequently encountered condition that prompts individuals to seek medical advice.
Classification
Acute pharyngitis can be categorized based on its underlying cause:

Myocarditis II: Clinical Features and Diagnostic Tests

41
Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle. The symptoms vary widely, encompassing asymptomatic presentations to severe, acute manifestations.Clinical PresentationAsymptomatic cases: In some instances, myocarditis may be asymptomatic, with the infection resolving without intervention. These cases often go undetected unless discovered incidentally through diagnostic imaging or tests conducted for other reasons.General Early Symptoms: Early symptoms of myocarditis are non-specific and can...

Myocarditis: Comprehensive Medical ManagementMyocarditis, the heart muscle inflammation, requires a comprehensive medical management strategy that addresses the underlying cause, provides supportive care, manages symptoms, and reduces cardiac workload.Infections and Autoimmune CausesAdminister appropriate antimicrobial therapy when an infectious agent causes myocarditis. For instance, penicillin treats infections caused by Group A Streptococcus. In cases where autoimmune processes are...

Tonsillitis I: Introduction

686
Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils, which are two lymphoid tissue masses at the back of the throat. This condition can cause discomfort and irritation in the throat.
Etiology
Three primary contributing factors have been identified.

Pericarditis II: Clinical Features and Diagnostic Tests

54
Pericarditis is distinguished by inflammation of the pericardium, the fibrous sac that encases the heart. It can be acute, lasting less than six weeks, or chronic, persisting for over three months. Understanding its clinical manifestations and diagnostic findings is crucial for timely and effective management.Clinical ManifestationsWhile pericarditis can be asymptomatic, it usually presents with characteristic symptoms such as:Chest Pain: The most characteristic symptom of pericarditis is chest...

Area of Science:

  • Endocrinology
  • Virology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Subacute thyroiditis is often linked to viral infections.
  • The incidence of SARS-CoV-2-related thyroiditis may be underestimated due to concurrent respiratory symptoms.

Observation:

  • Two female patients developed de Quervain's thyroiditis following COVID-19.
  • Thyroiditis symptoms emerged post-SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Findings:

  • COVID-19 (severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2) can be an etiological factor in de Quervain's thyroiditis.
  • Subacute thyroiditis may present after SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Implications:

  • Clinicians should consider SARS-CoV-2 as a potential cause of subacute thyroiditis.
  • Increased awareness of post-COVID-19 thyroiditis is warranted for accurate diagnosis and management.
