Summary

This study presents a successful valve-sparing aortic root replacement using the Florida sleeve technique in a patient with acute myocardial infarction and thoracic aortic aneurysm. The technique effectively reduced aortic root size and surgical risks.

Background:

  • A 73-year-old male presented with chest pain, diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and thoracic aortic aneurysm.
  • The aneurysm extended from the sinus of Valsalva to the proximal aortic arch.

Observation:

  • Emergent intervention for AMI was performed.
  • Enhanced computed tomography (CT) confirmed the extent of the thoracic aortic aneurysm.

Findings:

  • Fifty days post-AMI, the patient underwent valve-sparing aortic root replacement with the Florida sleeve technique, total aortic arch replacement, and coronary artery bypass grafting.
  • Postoperative CT showed a significant reduction in sinus of Valsalva diameter from 47 mm to 38 mm.
  • The patient experienced an uncomplicated recovery.
