    Background:

    • Kidney stones (calculi) are a common condition requiring surgical intervention.
    • Traditional surgical approaches for stone removal include subcostal or middle calyceal access.
    • The intercostal space offers an alternative surgical corridor for nephrostomy.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and complications of the intercostal nephrostomy approach for kidney stone removal.
    • To assess the accessibility of different stone types (staghorn, calyceal, ureteral) via this approach.

    Main Methods:

    • Fifty intercostal-space nephrostomies were performed in 50 patients.
    • The procedure targeted removal of staghorn, calyceal, and ureteral calculi.
    • Complications and subsequent management were recorded.

    • The intercostal approach provided direct access to upper-pole, ureteral, and most staghorn calculi.
