Pediatric Fecal Microbiota Transplantation in Recurrent Clostridioides Difficile
Pediatric Annals
|December 10, 2021
Abstract:
With the rising rates of Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile infection (CDI) in children, recognizing the limitations of CDI-directed antibiotic therapy, especially in recurrent CDI (rCDI), is important. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), which directly targets the underlying gut dysbiosis present in rCDI, is an important treatment option to consider in rCDI. This article will summarize indications, procedures, effectiveness, and the safety of FMT for rCDI in pediatric patients. [.

Diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) is a subtype of IBS characterized primarily by frequent, loose, or watery stools, abdominal pain, and abdominal discomfort. Therapeutic approaches to managing IBS-D include dietary changes, stress management techniques, and pharmaceutical interventions.
Two specific drugs used in the treatment are alosetron (Lotronex) and eluxadoline (Viberzi). Alosetron, a 5-HT3 antagonist, works by slowing the movement of stools in the gut, reducing bowel...
