Area of Science:

  • Social Sciences
  • Psychology
  • Education

Background:

  • Individual and group reflection are qualitative methods for skill development and understanding group dynamics.
  • These practices aim to foster self-awareness and empowerment within group settings.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate how individual and group reflection practices contribute to enhanced group skills.
  • To assess the effectiveness of group dynamics in fostering reflection and empowerment.

Main Methods:

  • 130 university students were divided into 23 online groups.
  • Participants completed individual reflections after activities and engaged in group reflections focusing on dynamics like climate and roles.
  • Grounded theory and NVivo software were used to analyze 130 individual and 23 group reflections.

Main Results:

  • Participants showed increased awareness of group dynamics, including roles, climate, and participation.
  • Reflection practices led to greater attention to factors influencing group interactions.
  • Awareness of these dynamics positively impacted perceived importance of roles, climate, and participation.

Conclusions:

  • Combined individual and group reflection strengthened interpersonal relationships among participants.
  • These reflective practices enhanced overall group cohesion.
