Insights
Internet technology significantly improved hypertension management in a study of 400 patients. The e-intervention group showed better blood pressure control, medication adherence, and health behaviors compared to routine care.
Area of Science:
- Medical Informatics
- Public Health
- Cardiology
Background:
- Hypertension management in community settings presents challenges.
- Effective strategies are needed to improve patient outcomes and adherence.
- Integrating technology into healthcare delivery is a growing trend.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the impact of internet technology on managing hypertension patients.
- To compare an e-intervention group with a control group receiving routine care.
- To assess improvements in blood pressure control and patient behaviors.
Main Methods:
- A study involving 400 hypertension patients in community health stations.
- Randomized controlled trial with an e-intervention group and a control group.
- Data collected on blood pressure, medication compliance, health behaviors, and referral rates.
Main Results:
- The e-intervention group achieved significantly lower blood pressure levels.
- Improved blood pressure control, medication compliance, and active health behaviors were observed in the e-intervention group.
- A higher two-way referral rate was noted in the e-intervention group.
Conclusions:
- Internet technology application enhances hypertension management in community medical associations.
- E-interventions can effectively decrease blood pressure in middle-aged and older hypertensive patients.
- Technology integration offers a promising approach for chronic disease management.
Objectives:
This study aimed to investigate the application effect of internet technology for managing patients with hypertension in a medical center.
Methods:
From December 2017 to December 2018, 400 patients with hypertension in two community health service stations affiliated to Beijing Shijitan Hospital (China) were enrolled in the present study. According to the alternating method, these patients were divided into a control group (routine medical hypertension management) and an e-intervention group (internet technical secondary hypertension management). Blood pressure levels after intervention in both groups, as well as blood pressure control, medication compliance, active health behaviors, and two-way referral rate were observed.
Results:
Following the interventions, blood pressure levels were significantly lower in the e-intervention group compared with the control group, and the proportion of good blood pressure control, medication compliance, active health behavior, and two-way referral were all significantly higher compared with the control group.
Conclusion:
The application of internet technology in medical associations may help to decrease patients' blood pressure and improve the effective management of middle-aged and older patients with hypertension in communities.
