Summary
This case report details the first splenic pseudocyst identified in a pregnant patient in Mexico. A 26-year-old woman underwent successful splenectomy during pregnancy for a large splenic lesion.
Area of Science:
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Surgical Pathology
- Abdominal Imaging
Background:
- Splenic cystic lesions are uncommon, categorized into epithelial (Type 1) and non-epithelial (Type 2, pseudocysts).
- Splenic pseudocysts typically arise secondary to trauma, infarction, or infection.
- No prior cases of splenic pseudocysts in pregnant patients have been documented in Mexico.
Observation:
- A 26-year-old pregnant woman presented asymptomatically with a large (25 × 18 × 10 cm) intraparenchymal splenic cystic lesion.
- The patient underwent an open splenectomy during the second trimester of pregnancy.
- Post-operative recovery was satisfactory.
Findings:
- Histological examination confirmed the splenic lesion as a pseudocyst.
- This represents the first documented instance of a splenic pseudocyst in a pregnant individual in Mexico.
Implications:
- This case expands the understanding of rare splenic pathologies during pregnancy.
- Highlights the importance of considering splenic lesions in pregnant patients, even if asymptomatic.
- Suggests splenectomy is a viable option for managing large splenic pseudocysts during pregnancy.

765
The appendix, a small, narrow, blind tube extending from the inferior part of the cecum, is widely regarded as a vestigial organ, having lost much of its original function through evolution. Despite its diminished role, the appendix can become inflamed, a condition known as appendicitis.
Etiology: Appendicitis can arise from various causes, primarily rooted in the obstruction of the appendix lumen. Factors contributing to this obstruction include fecal accumulation, lymphoid hyperplasia and, in...

Mitral Valve Prolapse III: Nursing Management

The nursing management of Mitral Valve Prolapse, or MVP, centers around patient education, symptom monitoring, and lifestyle modifications.Patient Education on MVP Diagnosis and Heredity: Nurses should provide comprehensive education about MVP, a condition where the mitral valve does not close appropriately during heartbeats. This education often includes the condition's pathophysiology, symptoms, and potential complications, like arrhythmias or mitral regurgitation. Though not fully...
