    Background:

    • Goblet cell (GC) mucus secretion is crucial during gut immune responses.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of macrophage-derived factors on mucus secretion from intestinal explants.
    • To determine if Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is involved in mediating this mucus secretion.

    • Incubation of mouse duodenal explants with macrophage culture supernatants.
    • Treatment with purified Interleukin-1 (IL-1) preparations.
    • Quantification of mucus release using an enzyme-linked lectin assay.
