Transesophageal echocardiography before electrical cardioversion for atrial fibrillation (AF) reveals left atrial thrombus (LAT) and spontaneous echo-contrast (SEC) in over a third of patients. Lower ejection fraction increases LAT/SEC risk, while higher CHADSVASC scores increase SEC risk.
