    Summary

    Pityriasis rosea patients showed altered immune responses, including lower T-cell counts and higher IgM levels. These immunologic changes suggest a potential viral infection may trigger pityriasis rosea.

    Background:

    • Pityriasis rosea is a common skin condition of unknown etiology.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the immunologic profile of patients with pityriasis rosea.
    • To explore potential associations with viral infections.

    Main Methods:

    • Immunologic parameters including serum immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA, IgM), complement components (C3, C4), lymphocyte subsets (B cells, T cells), and migration inhibition tests were analyzed in 31 patients.
    • Direct immunofluorescence tests were performed on three cases.

    • Patients exhibited normal serum IgG and IgA, but elevated IgM levels.
    • Decreased serum C3 complement levels were observed, while C4 remained normal.

    • Direct immunofluorescence tests were negative.

    • The findings support the hypothesis that a viral infection could be implicated in the immune response observed in pityriasis rosea.
