Summary

This study introduces a novel smart adhesive with a magnetic tip that rapidly switches adhesion on/off. This magnetic actuation enables precise, noncontact control for advanced transfer technologies.

Achieving rapid, noncontact adhesion control remains a challenge.

Purpose of the Study:

Develop a smart adhesive with dynamically tunable adhesion.
Enable rapid, noncontact control of adhesive properties.

Main Methods:

Designed a mushroom-shaped adhesive with a magnetized tip.
Utilized magnetic actuation to control tip morphology and adhesion.
Implemented selective pickup and pick-and-place modes.

Main Results:

Magnetic actuation reversibly switched adhesion between 'on' and 'off' states.
Demonstrated rapid, noncontact control of adhesive force.
Achieved instant object release via crack propagation in pick-and-place mode.
