  • Auditory brain-stem responses (ABRs) were measured in 20 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia.

    Conclusions:

    • Brain-stem dysfunction appears to be implicated in the psychopathology of schizophrenia.
    • Abnormalities in the auditory pathways of the brain-stem may contribute to the generation of auditory hallucinations in schizophrenic patients.
    • Further research into brain-stem function in schizophrenia is warranted.
