Restorative Care01:19

Restorative Care

2.1K
Restorative care is provided once a patient has been discharged from a healthcare facility and requires additional services. The additional services include home care, rehabilitation programs, and extended care. Restorative care centers help the patient regain their previous level of functioning or acquire a new level of functioning due to the incapacitating effects of a disease or a disability. It aims to assist patients in enhancing their quality of life by encouraging independence,...

Patient-centered Care01:13

Patient-centered Care

2.4K
Patient-centered care involves delivering care beyond inpatient hospitalization. Reflective practice can enhance a patient-centered approach. Reflective practice is a process of reasoning that considers all aspects of the present situation, including practicalities, learning from personal practice, and consideration of patient needs. Patients appreciate care decisions made while considering their input. Involving the patient in their care provides the patient with a sense of contribution rather...

Ethical Dilemmas I

Ethical dilemmas in nursing are of utmost importance, as they often arise from the tension between adhering to core ethical principles and the practical realities of healthcare delivery. These dilemmas require nurses to navigate complex situations where competing ethical considerations pull them in different directions.
Let us explore some examples to understand the potentially complex moral decisions nurses face.
Take the case of caring for minors, particularly in areas related to reproductive...

Teeth01:15

Teeth

852
The formation of teeth, also known as odontogenesis, is a complex process that begins in utero, around the sixth week of embryonic development. There are three stages to this process: the bud stage, the cap stage, and the bell stage.
In the bud stage, the tooth germ (an aggregation of cells) starts to form in the developing jawbone. During the cap stage, the tooth germ differentiates into enamel organ, dental papilla, and dental sac, which will later develop into the tooth's enamel, dentin...

Summary

Dentists show varying adherence to evidence-based dentistry in restorative and endodontic practices. Bridging the gap between research and clinical application is crucial for improving patient care in esthetic dentistry.

Area of Science:

  • Dental Science
  • Restorative Dentistry
  • Evidence-Based Dentistry

Background:

  • Growing patient and dentist interest in esthetic dentistry influences clinical decisions.
  • Understanding the integration of evidence-based dentistry (EBD) in caries research and restorative practice is essential.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate contemporary dental practices in restorative dentistry.
  • To examine the relationship between EBD in caries research and clinical decision-making.

Main Methods:

  • A structured questionnaire was distributed to dentists registered with the Jordanian Dental Association.
  • The survey assessed dentists' knowledge and application of EBD in caries research concerning restorative decisions.

Main Results:

  • 77% of dentists opt for root canal treatment over vital pulp therapy for irreversible pulpitis.
  • 72% of dentists use full crowns for badly damaged teeth; 13.8% routinely place posts and 23% routinely crown teeth post-root canal treatment.
  • For smile makeovers, conservative approaches are preferred, and implants are the primary choice for missing teeth (93.8%).

Conclusions:

  • Prosthetic Dentistry demonstrated higher EBD implementation than Endodontics.
  • A significant gap exists between EBD data and current clinical practice.
  • Integrating EBD into dental curricula through educators is recommended.
