Background:

  • Skull base osteomyelitis (SBO) is a rare but severe condition with high mortality.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To detail the clinical presentation, microbiological findings, and treatment responses in patients with SBO.
  • To compare outcomes between bacterial and fungal etiologies of osteomyelitis.
  • To analyze treatment duration and recurrence rates.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective, single-center analysis was conducted.
  • Data from 15 patients diagnosed with SBO between January 1998 and September 2019 were reviewed.
  • Patient demographics, comorbidities, microbiological data, treatment, and follow-up outcomes were assessed.

  • Further research is needed to optimize treatment strategies and reduce recurrence.
