Background:

Snake bite envenoming is a critical global health issue and a neglected tropical disease.
India faces a high burden, with 200,000 snakebites annually and over 25% mortality.
Understanding regional snake populations is crucial for effective public health strategies.

Observation:

The green pit viper (Trimeresurus gramineus) is noted as an uncommon species in Maharashtra's Konkan region.
Despite its uncommon status, observations indicate a recent increase in the green pit viper's population.

Findings:

The increasing prevalence of the green pit viper (Trimeresurus gramineus) in the Konkan area of Maharashtra presents a growing concern.
This observation contrasts with its previously considered uncommon status.

Implications:

Heightened vigilance and revised public health protocols are necessary in the Konkan region due to the green pit viper's increasing numbers.
Further research into the ecological factors driving this population shift is warranted.
Enhanced public awareness campaigns regarding snakebite prevention and immediate medical care are essential.
