Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between IL-28B and IL-29 gene polymorphisms and psoriasis.
  • To explore the relationship between these polymorphisms and psoriasis clinical severity.

Main Methods:

  • Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in IL-28B (rs12979860, rs8099917) and IL-29 (rs30461) were analyzed.
  • Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was used.
  • 140 psoriasis patients and 159 healthy controls were studied.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences in genotype or allele frequencies were found for IL-28B rs12979860 and IL-29 rs30461 between patients and controls.
  • The TG genotype of IL-28B rs8099917 showed a statistically significant difference between groups.
  • This TG genotype was associated with a 1.9-fold increased risk of psoriasis, suggesting the G allele may contribute to disease pathogenesis.

Conclusions:

  • The IL-28B rs8099917 polymorphism, specifically the TG genotype, is associated with an increased risk of psoriasis.
  • The G allele of IL-28B rs8099917 may play a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.
  • Further research is needed to elucidate the precise mechanisms of IFN-λ in psoriasis.
