Summary

Methotrexate (MTX) did not significantly impact patch test results in patients undergoing dermatological evaluation. This suggests MTX can be safely used during patch testing with minimal risk of false negatives.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To characterize a cohort of patients who underwent patch testing while taking methotrexate (MTX).
  • To evaluate the impact of MTX on patch test outcomes.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of patient data from 2010-2019.
  • Comparison of patch test results between patients taking MTX and a control group.

  • Overall positivity rate was 52.8%.
  • Patients on MTX had a 46.8% positivity rate versus 53.4% in the control group.
