Summary

CD37 protein expression in follicular lymphoma (FL) impacts patient survival. CD37-negative FL cases with high risk scores showed poorer outcomes, suggesting CD37 as a potential therapeutic target for B-cell lymphoma.

Background:

  • CD37 is a tetraspanin protein crucial for B-cell lymphoma survival.
  • Follicular lymphoma (FL) is a common B-cell neoplasm.
  • CD37 is emerging as a promising therapeutic target for B-cell malignancies.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate CD37 expression patterns in follicular lymphoma.
  • To correlate CD37 expression with prognostic factors in FL patients.
  • To evaluate CD37 as a potential therapeutic target in FL.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 167 FL cases.
  • Immunohistochemical evaluation of CD37 expression.
  • Statistical association analysis with clinicopathological features and survival data.

Main Results:

  • CD37 expression was observed in 60% of FL cases (100/167).
  • CD37 expression was mainly cytoplasmic and/or membranous in neoplastic cells.

  • CD37 expression is associated with overall survival in FL, particularly in high-risk patients.
  • CD37 may play a role in follicular lymphoma progression.
  • CD37 warrants further investigation as a potential therapeutic target for B-cell lymphomas.
