Program Report: Can-SOLVE CKD Network Presents an Inclusive Method for Developing Patient-Oriented Research Tools.

Background:

• Growing interest in patient-oriented research (POR) necessitates effective training for engaging patients as partners.
• The Canadians Seeking Solutions and Innovations to Overcome Chronic Kidney Disease (Can-SOLVE CKD) network identified a need for enhanced POR training materials.

Purpose of the Study:

• To co-develop relevant and meaningful training modules for patient partners in research.
• To address identified training gaps within the Can-SOLVE CKD network.

Main Methods:

• Establishment of a Training and Mentorship Committee (TMC) with diverse patient partners and experts.
• Needs assessment to identify training gaps.
• Co-development of 5 learning modules using a consultative and iterative approach, guided by the DoTTI framework and SPOR principles.

• Five learning modules were developed: A Patient Engagement Toolkit, Storytelling for Impact, Promoting Kidney Research in Canada (KidneyPRO), Wabishki Bizhiko Skaanj Learning Pathway, and Knowledge Translation.
