    Background:

    • Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness.
    • Current treatments for narcolepsy often have limitations or side effects.
    • Codeine, an opioid analgesic, has been anecdotally suggested for managing narcolepsy symptoms.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the effectiveness of codeine in treating excessive daytime sleepiness in narcolepsy.
    • To compare subjective patient reports with objective sleep and wakefulness measures.

    • Two trials were conducted: an open-label trial and a double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial.
