Percutaneous drainage of prostatic abscesses.

Summary

Background:

Intra-abdominal abscess drainage is a standard procedure.
Anuric patients on maintenance hemodialysis present unique management challenges.
Prostatic abscesses require effective and safe treatment strategies.

Observation:

Two patients on maintenance hemodialysis with anuric status presented with prostatic abscesses.
A transperineal, percutaneous catheter drainage technique was employed for abscess management.
Pelvic computerized tomography (CT) scans were utilized for diagnostic assessment and drainage confirmation.

Findings:

The transperineal percutaneous drainage technique was successfully implemented in both anuric hemodialysis patients.
Adequate abscess drainage was confirmed by post-procedure pelvic CT scans.
Follow-up assessments indicated satisfactory long-term clinical outcomes and resolution of the prostatic abscesses.

Implications:

Transperineal percutaneous drainage is a viable and effective treatment for prostatic abscesses in anuric hemodialysis patients.
This minimally invasive technique may be a preferred alternative to surgical intervention in select high-risk patients.
Further research could explore the broader application of this technique in similar complex patient cohorts.
